Being contacted by C.A.R.E. does not mean you are in trouble or in violation of any policy. C.A.R.E. reaches out to offer support, consult, or follow up on a concern related to a student’s well-being.
Our role is to provide guidance, share resources, and support student success—not to discipline or punish.
A referral should include the student’s name, contact information, and a brief description of the concerning behavior or situation.
Specific observations (what was seen or heard) are more helpful than interpretations or assumptions. You do not need to have all the answers—just share what prompted your concern.
Once a referral is submitted, the C.A.R.E. Team reviews the information and determines appropriate next steps, which may include outreach to the student, consultation with campus partners, and connection to supportive resources.
The process is focused on early intervention, care, and student success.
When in doubt, refer to C.A.R.E. Concerns involving emotional distress or any reference to harm to self or harm to others should be sent to the C.A.R.E. Team first—even if the concern seems minor or you are unsure.
Student Conduct generally comes first only when a formal threat assessment identifies an immediate safety risk to the campus community.
In those cases, conduct processes may occur before C.A.R.E. engagement. If a student returns to campus, C.A.R.E. then provides continued support and resources.
No. Referring a concern to C.A.R.E. does not violate privacy laws.
C.A.R.E. operates within FERPA and institutional guidelines, and information is shared only with those who have a legitimate educational interest.

These presentations do not qualify for Professional Development credit.
We require at least two weeks’ advance notice for most presentations. If your request falls outside of that timeline, availability cannot be guaranteed.
